About European Song Festival 2012
The European Song Festival is an international Performing Arts Festival for people with a disability. It will be hosted in June 2012, by COPE Foundation and will be in association with the EASPD and National Federation of Voluntary Bodies. The festival will include The International Song Competition, programmed performances, workshops and conferences.
Focus of the Festival
This festival aspires to be a demonstration of high quality performances by artists with a disability and / or arts partnerships with people with a disability and non-disabled artists in mainstream theatres and venues. Goals of the festival include:
- To create and present high quality art work by people with a disability.
- To create a new and lasting network of artists working or related to the field of arts and disability.
- To provide new opportunities to artists with a disability.
- To create awareness about the artistic creativity that persons with a disability can contribute to the wider arts community and general community.
- To celebrate and acknowledge the creativity of artists with a disability.
International Song Competition Guidelines
(These guidelines are subject to change)
- Each song or medley must be under 5 minutes in length.
- Original songs are welcome
- Cover versions of songs are welcome
- Each song will be accompanied by a live orchestra.
- Medleys of songs must be under 5 minutes.
Applicant criteria:
- This competition is only open to people with an intellectual disability
- Groups can be made up of a minimum of 2 people.
- There is no maximum number (if your group has over 10 people in it please contact us immediately about logistics).
- Solo performers may apply
- Inclusive Groups may not apply for this competition.
- Support to performers is permitted on stage. (marking will only be carried out on the performer(s) with an intellectual disability.
- A maximum on 20 acts will be permitted to enter this competition.
- Maximum time is 5 minutes in length.
- Applicants will be selected to ensure the maximum number of countries are represented in the International Competition.
- Each organisation or individual entrant is responsible for its own costs and expense.
- The minimum age of entry is 16 years of age.
- Sign Language choirs must be accompanied by a live singer(s).
Notice
Notice: If a national competition in the applicant’s country of residence has not been carried out to select an act, and multiple entries are received from that country, the International Song Competition Committee reserves the right to select the act that it deems to be of the highest standard to represent that country at the competition.- Recommendation: it best for each country to select a national representative where possible.
- Acts not selected for competition will be offered performance opportunities in programmed events throughout the festival where possible.
Notice
The European Song Festival Committee are happy to answer general queries about accommodation / travel / food etc. and advise attendees where we can.Final arrangements for Booking and Payment for these matters are the responsibility of those travelling to the festival. Final arrangements cannot be made through the European Song Festival organising committee unless it is clearly advertised as possible on our website. All costs for travelling to and from Ireland, and, accommodation and food whilst at the festival are the responsibility of the persons/groups attending the festival. The European Song Festival / COPE Foundation / EASPD or National Federation of Voluntary Bodies are not in a position to assist with these costs. Thank you.




The European Song Festival for people with an intellectual disability will take place in Cork City, Ireland on June 27th, 28th & 29th, 2012.
